Agency to axe 5000 staff

UKBA Chop Chop

The Chief Executive of the UKBA Lin Homer announced that a further 5000 jobs are going to be axed within the life of the present Coalition government.

Lin Homer’s intimation is connected to the budget cuts of about 20% for the UKBA and the chief executive explained that 1700 jobs had been lost but further staff would be losing their jobs.

Homer told MPs that the 1700 job losses so far were a “combination of natural wastage and voluntary redundancies”. The reduction in the Agency’s budget is matched by job losses which which will at more than 6700 out of a total staff of 24000. The Chief Executive stated that:

“My hope and expectation is that we can continue to do that in an orderly way.”

In light of the job losses in connection to the Spending Review it seems that a dramatic change in the immigration rules can only make things more complicated.
